Well, pending the governors signature, it looks like the NM Dept. of Game and Fish will be raising the prices of hunting licences in the 06-07 season. Looks like things like fishing, general hunting, elk will all be going up about 60%. (not a typo) Non-residents as well. Also looks like we may be forced to purchase two (2) habitat stamps in the future. So, with the added $6 "processing fee" on the deer draw that they just implemented on top of a 60% increase next year, this G&F will be pulling in money hand over foot. Will be interesting to see if there are any changes that will come about on the ground as a result of this? See what happens.

Jeff

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, weapon in one hand, calls in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Lets see, another habitat stamp and with elk tags for NR at 775 we'll add 60% to that......

Thanks Taulman-- its becoming official now the common man will no longer hunt anymore. Maybe its time to hunt things that cause problems.

Jeff

Well even though I think 775 is high, I also think it sucks to have only resident fees rise. Of course the same thing goes on here in TX also at times.

Thanks, Jeff

If NR Quality elk does not increase then both tags will cost exactly the same! Assuming 60% increase.

Looking at the senate bills on the NMFG website is says Nonresident elk and $465 and Quality Nonresident elk and $750. I don't know if this is the final version of the bill that is going to the govenor. Here is a cut and paste of part of the bill.

Getting closer to me having to hang it up for economic reasons. Too bad, my son is just starting to apply for tags. He may never get to hunt. My finances just do not allow me to spend much more for a tag than I do now. I hope the western states enjoy gouging the non-residents who can afford it.

Phantom Hunter

Yeah, I agree. I know there is inflation and everything, but what this is doing is going to make me have to choose between elk or deer, not both like I have hunted in the past. Instead of making a lot of money, they may loose money due to people hunting less species. WHAT is up with Javalina going up again!! I won't even pay what they are asking now. It is crazy that is cost more to hunt a 30lb stink pig than an antelope. Especially when you could go to TX or AZ and hunt for much less. With turkey going up, is that for two birds, or do you still purchase a second tag on top of it? Guess just wait and see what happens next year.

non- res- won't have to worry about that,
cause they won't be able to put fuel in their trucks to go hunting anyway, as far as that goes neither will the locals.

Come on how long has it been since they had a price increase? It isnt that bad, lets stop and think here how many of us drive 30 or 40 thousand dollar rigs, have 4 wheelers etc?

Yes, it's that bad. I work for the state. I haven't had a raise in 6 years. Every time I turn around the non-resident prices are going up. I know this has been discussed many times, but it is not right to charge non-residents 10-15 times what a resident pays. I can see the end of my hunting coming before too many years pass. I really don't think my son or daughter will be able to afford to hunt when they are on their own. We had better wake up or one day there will be no one to buy these high priced licenses. When all us old guys drop out and the younger ones can't afford it or have never gotten the bug where will we be? just had to vent.

Phantom Hunter

I'm confused here. The list shown above look like the NR elk prices are the same as they've been before. Are you saying the resident prices are going up 60%? Thx.

Yeah I can see where a 44 dollar increase on a bull elk tag will just ruin it for the nonresident!! Or is it the 70 dollar increase on deer? Or both? So nons need to save an extra 114 dollars over a 12 month period lets see $9.50 a month, I know one way dont buy that extra 12'er every month. Heck maybe skimp on the ol cigs/snuff that should do it. It isnt as bad as it seems.
