LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-07 AT 12:02PM (MST)[p]Ok - since I have done a little studying of Freud and Lacan, here's what they would have to say...
The moose is a symbolic representation of the patriarchal system in which you endeavor to dominate within your own family unit. The antlers are in fact a phallic symbol, which doesn't necesarily always represent a penis, but rather represents the desire of the offspring for the maternal figure (not always incest either), a desire which because of the law of the father, (or the prohibition of incest) prevents the offspring from obtaining the phallis. So, the phallis is something, some desire the offspring attains too but can never fully reach due to the law of the father. The moose in your dream has two sets of antlers, or phallic symbols, which means that your desire is overcompensating for your own personal lack of phallis. Your desire for the phallis as a child must have been pretty strong and the law of the father must have also been pretty strong as well, preventing you from having any chance at obtaining the phallis so now, in your own patriarchal system, represented by the moose, you overcompensate for this by making the phallis so large and un-obtainable to your own offspring through the enforcement of the law of the father that you are actually insecure about it still. When the moose is curling up at your feet and staying in your garage etc, then you are comfortable with the patriarchal system and its status quo. You have some semblance of control over your insecurity and have deluded yourself into thinking you control the phallis. However where it gets interesting is when your uncle (a patriarchal figure) comes in the picture. He cuts the antlers off the moose and takes away your embodiement of the phalls. He imposes the law of the father on you and your patriarchal system - cleary a classic example of castration (again remember that the phallis isn't always a penis) - or removal from the patriarchal order. For a time, the moose lives in your house and you are stable with the insitution of your uncle as the patriarchal figure, however the moose runs away and you go after it - clearly follwing your castrated embodiement of the phallis and the patriarchal order that you had once established to compensate for the insecurities in your life. Now, it is also interesting that you go in your brother's truck. He also represents a sense of inadequacy in your life. You use his truck, because to you it compensates for your own inadequacy but you see him as sucessfully obtaining the phallis, or coming closer to doing so. The blizzard in the dream represents your fear of finding the phallis, or the struggle to do so, to put yourself back at the top of the patriarchal order. To you it is a cold and bleak prospect, that though you may endeavor to take, does not give you much hope of completing the journey.
So a couple of questions from Dr.'s Freud and Lacan:
First - Has your uncle recently moved in to your home or become involved significantly in your family life?
If so, then you are worried that he is going to replace you as the patriarchal symbol within your patriarchal order. You are worried that he will remove your embodiement of the phallis and replace you within the patriarchal order.
Second - Has your wife been talking to your uncle without your knowledge? Or has he been talking with your mom?
If so, then you see your uncle's actions as a threat to your patriarchal order and your brother as a vehicle to your obtaining the phallis. You don't feel that you can do it yourself, but vicariously through him it is a possibility, though remote and ultimately unfulfilling.
Third - Why are you so afraid of your uncle?
If so, maybe you need to reconcile your fear in order to re-establish yourself as the head of the patriarchal order so he cannot further castrate you, or prevent you from obtaining your embodiement of the phallis, within your patriarchal system.
Fourth - Before you had this dream, were you watching the Outdoor Channel, eating ice cream directly from the carton and occasionally scratching yourself in the dark when you thought no one else was looking and when you awoke from the dream did you have an erection?
If so - don't worry. You are normal You just want to go to Alaska to hunt moose and would love the opportunity to hunt a Caribou at the same time but will settle for moose if that's all you can do. Also, you might want to let your dog in from the garage before he runs away and you have to go chasing him in your brother's truck in a blizzard. Oh yeah, and lay off the viagra a little bit!
