How do you slip off the horns to boil the skull?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-15-10 AT 07:12AM (MST)[p]Depending on how long the horns are, you can put it in a plastic garbage bag with a little water and then double bag it. put it in front of a heater for a couple days and they should pop off. With a trophy like a oryx, I would look for someone with beetles in your area, boiling ruins the bone and you always run the risk of it falling apart.
If the horns are to long, wrap them up with saran wrap, black plastic bags, then put in front of the heater.

I also heard if you boil the base of the horns too that they would also pop off. Is this true.

If you boil the whole horn it will pop off, you want to cut the meat off around the base of the horn so the water can get up inside. boil for 15 min, then check it, 15 min, check and so on until they come off. I dont like to boil, I feel the rotting is a safer way.
