Ouray National wildlife refuge

My son drew a youth bull elk tag. Anybody have any info they would be willing to share on the Ouray National Wildlife refuge area? Would this be an area worth checking out? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

While there is Elk out there, I feel that going up the mountain is a better play. Things to be aware of if you go there is that there is open and closed times, be aware of tribal lands, it is part of the extended archery area so you will have to be aware of archery hunters. That being said I have a youth with that tag. If we aren't able to get it done on the mountain it is close enough for me to run him out there after school so I probably will be there a couple week days during the hunt.
