8mm MAG Best sleeper cartridge out there. Knockdown and brush busts like a .338 and travels flat like a .300 mag. Especially with the A-Frame. Maybe that's why the STW's were so popular- until somebody necked down the 404 Jeffery. Just my $0.02

LAST EDITED ON Sep-18-06 AT 11:01AM (MST)[p]7mm Rem Mag 160 Nosler Accubonds on Norma Brass. Both bulls I have shot and a cow went no further than 50 yards. There are no varying degrees of death.

6mm
280 rem
30-06
7mm mag
300 win mag
All went to elk heaven wondering what had happened.

300 Win. Mag. (Browning A-Bolt) shooting 200 Gr. Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. Last fall dropped an elk with two shots. First one 366 yards followed up with an unnecessary 330 yard shot 4 inches from the first that dropped him. All lungs. My gun just shoots them well. It sprays 180 Gr. bullets.

270
7mm mag
54 cal. muzzle 365B&C bull
338 RUM
Next week I hope Mathews bow 100gr. Rocky titanium broadhead!

I've killed mulitple elk with all of the following,
243
270
280
7mm Rem mag
30-06

The 280 and 7mag are my favorite thus far.

I have a 338-06, a 35 Brown Whelen, and a 375 H&H that will hopefully see some elk blood in the next couple years.

Our camp (they don't post on here)

Myself 308 - 180 Federal HE

3 other guys 7 Mag - 160 Accubond, 7 Mag 160 Nosler Part. and 300 Weatherby (sp) 180 Partition

I just bought a 325 WSM and have handloaded some 200 gr. TSX bullets that shoot .75 groups. We'll see how they do.

Wow, some of you guys have taken a lot of bulls with a rifle. I only did it once on my first bull hunt and the rest are with bows. Just can't get enough of the archery rut hunts.....

P.S.-I witnessed Shootwice shooting twice last year as he mentioned and it was quite impressive. (He picked his handle BEFORE we went elk hunting...kinda scary huh?)

Grizzly

.30-06 and .300 RUM. No need to post numbers, but the freezer is usually full. Hey Buckshot2, get real or get lost. mtmuley

Not that hard...Just 4 a year for 20 years.....rofl

O yeah I forgot the one I took with .243 at 600 yard one shot and he never got up again.

Buckshot2,

DOOHHHHH!!!

I just realized you were the original poster and your last post MIGHT have been the tally, so far, and not your own personal elk slaying record.

Like I said earlier...DOOHHHHH!!!

Slightly embarassed,

Grizzly

1 .270
3 7 mm rem mag
1 30 - 06

Crippled and lost another with a 7mm rem mag.

Everyone gets so worked up about calibers. They brag about what a great job a certain caliber did - as if a different caliber couldn't do the same. The problem is you can't kill an animal twice. And that's what you'd have to do to compare.

All he is doing is keeping a running total of the guns used. You need to get real or learn to read.

Lol no problem Grizz, no harm no foul.

"Hey Buckshot2, get real or get lost. mtmuley "

Ah.......... yeah??????? its just an FYI poll, nothing serious, just allowing me to compare MMs numbers to HNI.

Now where was I? lol.

And I disagree with "Caliber doesn't matter" on elk. Give them the respect they deserve and use enough gun.

So BChunter, is it guns used or elk killed? Still a way out there number. I can read and I can add. You must be buds with buckshot2. Between the 2 of you you haven't killed that many elk with that many guns. mtmuley

25-06

Don't lecture me about enough gun, Sir. I could shoot a bird in the eye flyin' with that rifle. I also wouldn't shoot an elk past 300 yds. :) But then again I've never had to.

I bow down before you, I really was stupid. buffalo, you are correct. Apologies to BChunter, I looked but I didn't READ. mtmuley

Three for three with the .06, 150gr Barns X. Then I've went 7 for 7 with my 270 shooting 140gr Remington Safari swift A-frame. Now thats the best factory load I've found. All spike elk, someday I will luck out and get a LE tag. Thanks to Utah they lowered the age class in my unit, so much for 9 points....
