There is something wrong with our grocery supply system, when people think it's normal to pay $4-6 per pound for ground beef, but they have to sell whole pork loins for $1.79/pound to get them out of the store.

My Grandma fixed this about once a week, and always called it "burnt bottom gravy". She blamed it on being raised cooking on a wood stove, and never got the hang of those fancy electric ranges!!! :)

My grandmother has a electric stove/oven and the only thing she used it for was cooking a cake. She cooked a hot breakfast every morning and a hot dinner every night on a wood burning stove, lunch was generally a sandwich of some means.
She also had plates identical to the ones you have in the picture.
That meal sure brings back some good memories. Meals at my grandmother house was more than just eating and getting full, it was a time for visiting and relaxing, she was always on the go doing something, it was the only time she would seat down and relax.
Different generation.
