LAST EDITED ON Jan-25-04 AT 02:40PM (MST)[p]My hunting partner was asked to help accompany his 14 year old son's ball team down to Mesquite, Nevada for a three day tournament last weekend. Anyway, my hunting partner came stumbling back in to his room at 3:00 a.m. on the last night they were there, after losing the last of his gas money home in the casinos, only to find his son wasn't in his bed sleeping like he was supposed to be. A search was quickly launched and the missing boy was soon located......sipping champagne in a hot tub with a couple of topless college aged girls!

One can only imagine the pride my hound dogging buddy must have felt seeing his 14 year old boy in such circumstances....it must have been overwhelming. The boy has accompanied us on numerous lion and bear hunts over the years, and even though I am not his father (at least all the DNA tests came back inconclusive), I like to think that I had a little something to do with his upbringing. He's a credit to hound doggers everywhere!

So rest assured my friends, a new generation is rising up ready to take the art of hound dogging to a whole new level! I've never been so upbeat about our future!!

Atta boy! That's the stuff that dreams are made of. He will go down in history among his classmates. He's gonna make a fine hounddogger. You sure he's not yours? :)

So they let him stay with the girls right?

I'm reminded of a story Dawg tells of his hunting buddy. Well his buddy's son at least. The kid knocks up a wealthy man's daughter and at the reception Dawg's buddy is happy as the 14 year old in Kevin's story. Couldn't have been prouder of his son for picking so well. Who says "you shouldn't let your weenie choose your wife"?

Ed

Ya Ed, that was quite the wedding. My old hounding buddy standing there grinning from ear to ear and the brides family over there trying to fight back the tears of despair and disappointment. :)

Kev, moments like that make me proud to be a hound dogger. I think this kid has shown promise and needs to be taken out of school immediately and placed in the full time care of me, you and Ed. ;-)

I once shared a similiar "Proud moment" but it was one of my hunting buddies that made me so proud. I hope you don't mind Kevin if I brag on you a little bit. But that incident last year elk hunting with you was a proud moment... a moment when I knew you were a true houndsmen and an example to all of us.

Me and Ed got invited up to elk camp by Kevin and joined him, his family and some friends for a big elk hunt. The second morning we had located some elk and were moving in for the kill. My wife was back in camp but Ed's wife is a gamer and she was out hunting with us. We had all split up to do a push and try to drive some elk.

They were coming out of the timber ahead of the drivers and Ed was getting ready to take the shot. Kevin was behind him whispering instructions into his ear. They found the elk they wanted and Kev whispered, "take the shot."

We waited and waited but nothing. Finally, exasperated Kevin said, "They are heading for cover, what are you doing?" Ed said, "Well my wife is over on that ridge watching so I want to make this shot perfect."

Kevin went ballistic when he heard this. He yelled, "Oh for hell sakes, you'll never hit her from here. Just shoot the damn elk!!!"

It was a moment that brought tears to my eyes and made me proud to call Kevin a friend.
