question about lenses.......maybe

I bought a canon 20d and an efs 17-85 lens.

I still cant get a photo as sharp as some that I see here.

Are the super sharp ones I see here a result of more megapixels, better lenses, or maybe a combination of the two?

Can I improve my images with a lens upgrade, or do I need a whole new camera?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-02-08 AT 09:31AM (MST)[p]I bougth the 17-85 "package" lens with my 30D, and while it is not the top of the line glass, it still produces sharp images if the photographer does his part. Much reduced and compressed samples below. The actual RAW images are tack sharp.

Let's see some samples of your pix, and maybe we can determine where the problem lies. -TONY
