They don't make them like they used to. Had a 1920?s era GE pedestal fridge at the shop. Thing purred like a kitten and only got tossed because an employee was defrosting the coils and ran a screwdriver through it. The thing ran 24/7 from its birth until about 2010.
1911 you are right about that. In 1981 I used my uniform allowance check to purchase a chest type freezer since I was going on a hunting trip to Montana.
we still have that freezer today and it runs like a champ. Many an elk, deer, antelope, and 4 buffalo have been kept in that freezer for the family.
Bought a GE refer brand new about 8 year ago only got 2 years out of the piece of crap before the motor went out. My mother in law has a freezer & refer in her garage that are older than me & they are still in perfectly working order. I'm 50 by the way. The crap they make now does not last long at all!!!!
We found a repairman at the last minute. A relay installed. Saved 900.00 and its working great. Saved enough money for a Moab trip sometime in the next 6 weeks.

Mixed emotions. I was already half way through the grieving process of losing your old one.
