Spike elk

So what does everyone have to say about the spike only tag.

I’ve got one. I’ll probably only find big bulls and cows like every other year. But it will still be fun.

Lol I got the tag this year also. If nothing else it will be a good time camping for the week and takeing pictures of the bulls.

I say it’s a great opportunity to go hunting on units that should have a lot of elk.

If I’m being 100% honest, I’m a little sad I’m sitting out the spike archery hunt this year because I have a LE muzzy tag. The spike hunt is fun, no pressure, I just sit in a treestand over a spot that I’ve scouted and I know if I sit there long enough, I’ll kill a spike, cow or both, proper permits allowing of course. It’s so easy to get caught up in the trophy mentality of the bull hunts that you can get to the point where it’s more stressful than fun. Spikes is the other way around.

I agree with this. I am looking forward to this tag. I have spent a lot of time on the Nevada side I am looking forward to this spike tag.

We pick them up when archery hunting deer, just to give us something else to chase. It's a chance to fill the freezer with some tasty protein, but a cow works as well as a spike for us.
