In my opinion, the fundamental issue that is not being addressed is that we are presently living in a society with a growing percentage of that population believing that it is OK to kill someone.
You can take away the guns, but if you do not get to the root of the problem, people are still going to find ways to kill others.
Parents are not parenting anymore. You have familial units that are all glued to a screen in their palm, sucked into a world vastly different from the person who sits right next to them. This problem is going to be exacerbated in future generations, for a number of reasons, but mostly because of a sort of a crazy feed back loop that is developing.
Through social media, internet forums, etc., a person with delusional thoughts can easily find like minded others, who both support and encourage illicit behavior and actions. Once someone actually acts out on this craziness, they are rewarded with their 15 minutes of fame by the media that provides 24/7 coverage of the situation.
Its really a shame, and I feel such sadness for all of the victims, the families, the teachers, and the communities that have been forced to face this madness head on. Its truly traumatic and upsetting that students in todays America have a legitimate reason to be afraid to go to school.
I do not think there is an easy fix to this situation. Like I said, if you take away every single gun in America, which I realize is a huge improbability, but as a thought experiment, say that you can magically confiscate all of them. How long do you think it would take before these misguided, troubled individuals begin using their cars to bowl over crowds? There are probably an infinite number of ways that they can inflict the pain that they wish to inflict.
Parents need to grow a pair, stop pointing the finger at the NRA, Hunters, "Gun Nuts", and otherwise responsible gun owners. The parents need to turn the finger around and point it back at themselves. They have in some way, shape or form failed their kids if they have raised someone who believes it to be OK to kill another human being.
Its not my intention to piss anyone off. I am just saying, lets get to the root of the problem, whatever it may be.
