If my buddy sees this he's gonna put a broadhead through me! He says he's too old to hunt elk and they're too much work for him since you can't seem to shoot them off the road like deer.
He got a wild hair to set up a tree stand on a couple elk trails and ambush one. I hate to see the poor guy sit there all season. I can see him getting little ringy with nobody to talk to but himself. That and he's got some crazy idea to ration his food throughout the day so he can give himself a treat for every hour he can stay sitting there. That and he's got some crazy idea to pack a bunch of Diet Coke in to throw in the creek for something cool to drink. I told him he better get caffiene free if he plans on sitting still all day, but...
Anyways, before he sets out I thought I'd check with you elk hunting fanatics and see if you had any suggestions or advice for him (sit early, sit late, use a decoy, salt blocks, bugle, cow call, whiskey instead of coke, etc...). He can't read, so it could be a long 12 days!
The season is Sept. 8-20 (archery), so it will be hot and coming into the rut.
Thanks for the input!
