LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-08 AT 12:33PM (MST)[p]My sons friend Trenton killed his 2nd buck, and 1st with a bow. His story is as follows.
Alright... It's opening morning of the general season archery
hunt. My dad has a archers choice elk tag, and a archery mule
deer tag. I just had a northern rifle tag since the youth can
hunt archery, muzzleloader, and rifle tell they fill their
tag. So as we set our double bull ground blind up at this
frequented waterhole, used by both elk and deer. We were in the blind by about 5:40 and we had a spike bull coming in about
6:00. He came in 3 different times before he stepped out over
the water hole at 21 yards and my dad put the hammer on him. He went about 80 yards tell he piled up. So after we got his elk taken care of and hung up in camp we ate some lunch and headed out for the afternoon hunt for a deer.
So we started off below camp working the quakies real slow. It was about a half mile east tell we seen our first nice 3 point. My dad was gettin me on him, but I was so excited I was trying to get the range finder on him and was making to much noise. So the nice 3 point turned around and stotted off. I snuck up about 80 yards further to see if he was still around but no sign. So we kept on going to find another 3 point about 200 yards further then where this last one was. He was just a little to small so I passed. It wasn't tell about 5 hrs later tell I had one more chance at a buck.
We decided to hit this last patch of quakies on the way up to camp and what do you know. My dad spots a nice 3 point feeding at about 35 yards. So I decided this is the buck I want. It was about a 10 minute stock from 35 to 20 yards. He actually bedded down for a sec then I stepped to the right and crunched on some leaves and the buck stood up. I looked at my dad and he said take him. I came to full draw and at 20 yards I put my arrow cleen through both lungs. Following the shot I began to shake with excitment! We walked up to were I shot and couldn't find my arrow so we decided to start on the blood trail slowly. We kept on it for about 90 yards and found him piled up. Boy was I a happy hunter!!! It had to been the funnest thing I have ever done so far, sneeking on a mule deer at 20 yards and making a nice shot on him.
