Have you ever seen a turkey with the bottom of his beard like a reddish brown before? I am trying to figure out what caused this?

Mud stuck to the end? Discoloration from being frozen in snow? I have not seen that before.

I think they call it beard rot. Usually from getting wet and frozen on the end and then breaking off. Just a guess.

It froze off. my dad shot one like that a few years ago. He is a wild life biologist

LAST EDITED ON May-04-10 AT 05:21PM (MST)[p]I shot one once that was like that. He had a full fan, 1" spurs and was a 18 lbs. bird with a 3 inch beard. I was told it was "beard rot" Good picture.
