Anybody see uncle Ted shoot two blacktails in the butt last night? He also shot one of them in the guts. One of the bucks was a giant. I am very surprised they actually showed it. I know it happens alot but still. I was happy to see they did recover both animals.

Give the man credit for showing it. Not many of the "pros" would show it, even though we all no it happens. I doubt he was happy about it, but the man shows it, I give him credit.

He definately does not suger coat anything,Yes they were bad shots ,but bad shots happen .At least he shows them and not edit them out .

Yeah, I agree. I was surprised because you never see any other shows showing bad shots that hit animals. You see misses, but you don't see a deer hunched over with his guts hanging out. If you hunt long enough, it happens. It showed one the "realities" of hunting. My wife felt bad though. At least she will watch Uncle Ted with me, right?

Being the hunt took place in Kali, I posted a thread in that forum.

What i believe i saw, was also saw by the other responders, was Ted's shooting of 3 different bucks which is against the law, and that the first dink buck that he shot, was a small spike, also not legal to take in Kali. There was mention of the possibility of the hunt taking place over a 2 yr span which would account for the three different bucks taken by Ted but the spike issue seemed a blatant violation of the long standing F&G laws which there can be little if any excuse.

I hope there are answers for our questions and concerns, i like and respect the Nuge but as of now, i've lost some respect for the guy, very poor show!

Joey, I do not know what the explanation is, but, there has got to be one.

There is no way that a guy with his high profile would air a show of him violating the law.

Could that have been a high fence ranch??

I do not think that was a hunt over 2 years.

I could see a guy like him showing a hunt exactly how it happens, gut shot deer, butt shots, because that is the reality of hunting. 3x in a row pretty bad though.

Ted does not care to much about the politically correct stuff even when it comes to other hunter. I just cant see him full on breaking the law and then making a TV show about it.

Please tell me Ted didn't shoot a spike in CA and show it on TV.

NMPaul, I really hope you are right!!

In shooting that dink spike though, the camera showed it up very close, there was little if any doubt that it was a spike. They then skip to the trophy shot and Ted has his hands over the rack so it can't be seen well and mumbling, says it's a mature forkie??? Baloney!

I just don't know what to think??? Anything positive that could shed light on the subject would be welcome!

I can appreciate all he does for the sport, but I hate watching his show! Very poorly produced.
I haen't seen the one in question yet, but......
maybe I'll miss it!

I watched the show and while I was a little disappointed/disgusted on the Nuge's shooting abilities I don't think he broke any laws IF he was hunting on a PIW ranch, where the state issues extra tags in addition to the two tags that he would be able to buy OTC.

Also the spike that he shot was actually a 2x1, which is legal but by no means a trophy. He then went on to describe the dink as a "mean little deer that had it coming" after it "tortured" him by standing behind a bush for a minute.

The next buck that he shot (in the hind quarter) was an absolute pig.

I personally wouldn't have shot the first or last deer but Ted is more about the spirit of the hunt and not so much about the size of the antlers, to each his own.

While the show was running it said "2008" and then "2009". On the pig it appeared that he had several good chances to draw back while the bucks head was behind a tree. Instead he finally draws back when the deer is walking off and makes a lousy shot.
I can't say "you gotta hand it to the guy" for anything I saw on that show.

King crow, regardless of weather you hunt on a PIW ranch or not you can still only kill two deer in Cali per year. In order to obtain a PIW tag you must turn in an unused tag such as an "A" or "B" tag. And just so that you guys know this is not a high fence ranch, just a small private ranch in Placerville.

Hey KingCrow, Are you trying to say that you can buy three tags in California? I don't think that is accurate at all. When you book a PIW hunt you still have to fill out the tag application for your first or second tag and then you have to trade one of them for a PIW tag. So the most tags you can get in one season is two. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think I got it right.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-10 AT 06:53AM (MST)[p]Arrowflinger. I agree with some of what you said.

However, if the forky was legal (I was not paying close attention) and he wants to shoot it. So be it. Its his tag.

Agree, should not have taken that shot at the big buck walking away.
Bad shot selection. However, I bet the majority of the archery hunters would have taken that shot. Only basing it on what I have seen, not what I have heard from the self righteous.

In archery, keep in mind if you miss an animal completely, if you had made even a slightly better shot, you have now wounded an animal.

So for every time some body tells you they missed the odds tell you that there were some wounding shots also at some point in their history.

At least Ted doesnt just show you the good. You for sure get the bad also.

IF nothing else, you'll see one heck of a Blacktail, Blacktail-Cross, buck and some terrible shooting. Also, i'm pretty sure, the first of three bucks taken by Ted, WAS a spike!

Check it out!!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-10 AT 08:05PM (MST)[p]If you go to his website you can read that the hunts were over a period of 2 years.I am not framiliar with the California game laws so I cant say whether the small buck was leagal or not .In my opinion ,its good to see a show in which they actually show what happens ,not what has been edited for television .The fact he will fill his tag on a dink buck and not on every show ,show him harvesting a monster buck ,is a nice change .The guys who show themselves killing huge bucks on a regular basis distort reality ,JUST A BIT .At least his show is more realistic when it comes to bow hunting .

I have not seen the show, but I understand the criticism. But Ted didn't have to air the show. I'm sure we've all taken shots that were poorly placed or mis-guided. Sometimes the excitement takes over and things don't work out as planned and bad judgements are made. How many of you have had the pleasure of having all clean kills since the inception of your first tag? I would consider myself an accomplished hunter and very ethical in the field, but I made a bad shot this year and was very embarassed and ashamed. The animal was still harvested, but I still considered hanging up my rifle because of my poor judgement. I totally over-estimated my ability and was a little too cocky. I continued later in the year to have a clean kill on a great bull in New Mexico. I'd air the bull hunt anyday, but I'd never have the guts to air the goat hunt. How many of you would be willing to air your not-so-clean harvests or just wounding an animal and not being able to find or retrieve it?
I'll bet Ted has done more to preserve hunting and our gun rights here in the U.S. than most of us on MM. While he should be a little embarassed, he still allowed it to be aired and it is real life. Things don't always go as planned, remember that the next time you choke and wound an animal. You probablly wouldn't be so hard on your best hunting buddies.

And it was over a span of two years, the first year being west of Oroville, and the second year being outside of Placerville.

From the shows I have seen Ted usually makes a good shot but on this hunt he had a hood over his fletchings and it matted them causing his arrows to fly poorly.

I think that Ted put a poor shot on the animals on purpose just to piss off the PETA people. I wouldnt put it past him!

Did anybody see him shoot that hog last night? First arrow cut the stomach so it had guts hanging out of it. Second arrow looked like a good shot but I think that it was a little far forward. When he came up on it after tracking it it got up and he shot it with his pistol. It dropped but got up again and he shot it with his pistol again!! Hogs are tough
