Hey guys/gals how we doing? Well looks like I drew a 3rd season muley tag for this unit. Never hunted this area of colorado but it looks interesting so I thought I would give it a go. Plan on doing some scouting this summer just to get an idea of where I can hunt and an idea of the lay of the land. All my efforts will be on public land. I also plan on spending the week there during the hunt if need be. Really I just have of a couple questions for the ones that have some experience hunting this area. I have a goal of 180+ of course score isn't a big deal but big mature deer is, and score gives an idea. Is that goal out of line or if I hunt my tail off is that realistic? Also curious how the winter was in this region? Thanks for the help, hope you all have a good year.

It will be hard to find a 180+ buck in the units your hunting. I would hunt high and get away from all the roads and pray for SNOW! Unit 35 is across from 44 so you could get lucky on a big buck in that area. I would hunt between 9,000-10,000 ft. The mature bucks wont come down in tell snow falls or when it gets closer to the rut. We did get a lot of snow this season but don't think we had a lot of winter kills.

Best of luck!!

I am going to hunt hard and see if I can find a mature buck. Should I expect to see a few 160+ bucks and am I crazy for not shooting a 170 if I get the chance?

I drew the same tag, and it will be my first time in the unit as well. From the research I have done, shoot a 170 class buck.

That said, if you have a few of those on the wall, then the genetics in this part of the world are pretty good. There is always a chance in Co.
