Unit 40 Elk

If you had your choice to hunt any hunt for elk in unit 40, but it had to be on public land only which would it be? And why? Are there more elk on public land early, or later in the year?

I would pass on that completely, you can have success on public but the majortiy of the big elk are on the private. If I had to have the tag I would go with archery or ML There seems to be more elk on the public early. Just my honest opinion

I would think either the archery season or late rifle would be the most elk on public. After the pressure begins they head to private and wait until the winter turns. Did you run across many bulls?
