They call it unit 44 because only 44% of mature bucks have survived since they put in the 4th season!
Between 4th season, and a couple bad winters, the unit isn't what it used to be. Barf Carter hasn't helped it any either...

Hunted it 4th season last year with a E/S Elk tag. Didn't see a single elk but came across a beautiful 5X5 at 75 yards. He stood there with his does just staring at me for 10-15 seconds.
Smart buck...he knew I didn't have a deer tag.
I only saw one other buck glassing and he was a decent 3X3.
