I'm kicking around the idea of getting s leftover 3rd or 4th rifle season tag for elk. I've hunted the units to the south of Hwy 50 but never in unit 54. Looking at hunting the Beaver Creek or Stubeun Creek canyons. Anyone had any experiences in this unit? Thanks Preston

Late seasons can be real tough in 54. The elk have gotten really good at good at getting to private and staying there. 3rd and 4th seasons were very poor this past year. Id personally look at going to 55 and focus around the fossil ridge area.

How about that country just west of Ohio Creek, maybe around the Castles? Fossil Ridge gets hammered during the late seasons.

Thanks Coloradoboy - I have looked into unit 55, but am concerned about hunter pressure. With the cap license for the 2nd season, does this season offer better success? Does Tenderfoot offer meat packing around the Castles or around Mill Creek, Beaver Creek drainages during the 2nd rifle? Thanks

We do but we are out of that country by the end of second rifle so no in your case. Majority of the elk are out of North, and south castle creek by then and sitting on the castleton ranch or the mill castle ranch. If there is enough snow round top mountain, red mountain and alkaline basin on the east side of Ohio creek road could hold elk.

Excuse me. I read your question incorrectly. We will pack elk for you in the second season if we are available to do so at the time.
