unit 55 deer

Just found out my brother and I drew unit 55 buck deer (oct.5-31)!!!!! Wondered if anyone had some general info that they might pass along. Iv'e never hunted in this unit before. Is access pretty good? deer numbers? what is an average size buck?
I looked on the fish and game web site and tried to find out as much info as I could. This hunt seems like it will be a fun hunt.

Lots of public ground.....lots of private ground down lower. Access is easy.....as long as you're willing to walk. It's not a road-hunter's paradise, although many do.

If you really want a shot at a big deer (get a topo map) and hunt on the side of the biggest mountain that is AWAY from the access road. That's not a great secret but it's the truth.

I plan on hunting down there in Dec for the archery hunt. I have been in the area only breifly so I have nothing really to add in order to help you. However, I ordered two 1/10,000 topo maps from mytopo.com of the areas I want to focus on. The price wasn't too bad either, I'd reccomend it.


I am sure you will head out there and do some scouting, so that will help you. I don't have that option but I wish I did!
