I know there's a few guys on here that know 76 pretty well, any chance I could chat with some of yall? Have a few questions I'd like to pm about.
I'm not after anything huge. I'd say if I could get around a 300in bull infront of me I would be tickled! I'm more interested in an awesome hunt. What do you want out of the hunt?
Beauty of 76 is tough to beat, but if your set on a certain size bull might not be the best unit.
Hopefully I’ll be able to do that when I’m 77.Probably going to get an awesome hunt in either unit. I'd personally do 76 and pack in somewhere for a week with llamas or something.
When you say quality, are you meaning quality of the hunt or animals? I've been in the unit a but scouting and saw some ok bulls, and all I've heard is there's so many animals, just gotta weed through the rag horns.I’d do 61 over 76 if I had the points. 76 is amazing country and awesome elk country. But for quality 61 I think is better.
So at or above 11,500 every day is what you’re suggesting for a 77 year old? ?Unit 61 and 76 last couple years….

Clearly the bulls are bigger in 61 based on “all this data”
Lots of people and oodles of elk in 61.
A LOT fewer folks running around 76 and lots of elk and EASY, with hard work to get away from ‘everybody’. Awesome place to take llamas way, way in to the wilderness and have it all to yourself. Rented llamas for the whole archery season and it was awesome all around. Especially when kill a bull 9 miles from trailhead in a spot I would never hunt without llamas or other livestock. That part of the hunt was 8 days with NO OTHER HUNTERS and scads of elk we could hunt at our own pace knowing nobody was gonna blow them out. The terrain in 76 is no joke and we spent most every day at or above 11,500, Unit 61 tops out around 9,000 feet and tons of elk much lower than than that.
Hard choice between the two. certain factors sway it one way or the other depending on what floats your boat.
so was your unit 61 a land owner tag ? you could not have had enough points for 61 in 2019 and then get 76 2 years later< just asking, great looking bulls from both units.Unit 61 and 76 last couple years….

Correct. It was a re-issue tag. I've hunted 61 three times the last few years one draw and two reissues.
Where did I say that oldman? So at or above 11,500 every day is what you’re suggesting for a 77 year old? ?
