Hey guys was wondering what you think of this unit. I have a late rifle tag for elk. First scouting trip was the archery deer opener, heard a couple of bulls bugle on the last morning I was there planning on going back 3rd week of september and also in october. My question is where is the better area for late rifle by whitehorse lake or by coleman lake. Coleman lake has some nice country and some nice camp spots, but looks like it would be crowded there with the nice camp spots. any input would be appreciated not looking for honey holes would like to get nice branch bull and would settle for a nice 5x5 if given the chance. Thanks for any advice.

Keep in touch. I have been in the unit for the past two days and will be here the until 9/24.

for Your Nov general hunt, look in the Canyons that border the unit and in cedars to the South.Young bulls only on those ponderosa pine flats around the lakes and yes .... lots of hunters.Good Luck, Bruce & SilverGrand

I will be going back up there either the 16th or the 23rd for more scouting. Than in october. I know the bulls probaly will be in a different area by november, but if they don't get any snow there is no reason for them to move lower unless they are getting pressured.

I have the October 21st Bull hunt. I have not seen to many bulls in my scouting trips. Mike

I'll be in the unit for a cow elk muzzleloader hunt starting on the 23rd. I can report my observations after that! It really is a big area.

Will someone please send me a PM. I have 10 days left on my unit 8 archery bull hunt and I could use a PM.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-14-11 AT 05:33PM (MST)[p]I would like to hear the story not through pm. Don't have to disclose the areas hunted.

Any luck from the archery hunters? I was up on Saturday scouting for my 10/21 rifle bull hunt. Saw a nice 5x5 and some cows. I know the muzzy hunt is going on right now. Love to hear some stories about these hunts. I did not hear any bugles. Mike
