I found you can download USGS maps.
http://store.usgs.gov You go to the map locator. Select an area and then it will show you the maps for that area. You can order or just download it to save some $.

Or you can order custon maps with your scale [UTM] and the coordinates you want, shading etc. on waterproof paper at My Topo. com [I think thats the place]

You can center the area you want, even though you will end up on the corner or the edge of the map anyways....

that's neat. did not know about it. Monster files to download though (5 megs for a 7.5 map I tried). will take awhile but great for new states a guy does not already have map software for.
