Any archers having any luck on the wasatch? We have seen one good bull and a few 5 points, the heat is tough to hunt in and the elk so far have been extremely quiet. Just wondering what luck the rest of you are having out there.

Toughest huntin in years 03 every guy i have talked to says it sux and thats quite a few.

so its not just us then. We have also talked to quite a few people who haven't even seen cow in a few days of hunting. So we should consider ourselves lucky for even seeing a few bulls. Hopefully with the moon not being full it will get a little better, and lets all pray for some cold weather.

Its pretty slow right now opening weekends cooler weather got the bulls going and we were in the elk really good, but this weekends 50 degree lows have the bulls in the timber and not moving. We are having some success on water, with bulls hitting any time during the day, some close calls on big bulls but nothing yet.

We need cooler weather and no moon this weekend things should start picking up.

Eveyone is struggeling on every unit just about, the full moon, heat and earlier season are just a tough combo right now.

This season's antler growth will go down in history as one of the best, hunt slow, hunt hard and don't give up.
Be patient, they will light up soon.

Good luck to all that are enduring the frustration, patients will be a virtue! :)

We have gone out the last two weekends in a row. opening weekend we didnt hear a thing and we only saw two raghorn bulls. this last week end we heard several Bugles and saw a lot of Elk we even called in a 5 point to 15 yards. He came in silent though. and we saw a few other 5 points that weren't even the slightest bit interested in our calls..i guess we will see what the later part of the hunt brings... hopefully cooler weather and maybe a bull on the ground.

Good Luck

Good luck guy's,

I have seen some great bulls, but they are in the timber before the sun crests the hills. Very quiet but I believe they will respond silently right now. Be patient and Do not get discouraged. The best is yet to come! It is hard to wait for the kill, and stress builds as the days slip by, but the hunt will get better and better with everyday that passes. Shoot straight when the opportunity presents itself, and post pic's when you get him out!

Went back out this morning we saw 9 bulls and 10 cows one 315 class bull. Some of the smaller bulls were sparing a little and the bigger bulls were bugeling, but they were not really acting like they were rutting the larger bull left the cows with the smaller bulls and headed for the timber when the sun started to come up.

Don't want to know where, but did you hear bugling in southern, central or northern utah? Just curious.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-26-08 AT 11:43PM (MST)[p]Just like Silentstalker said....look for the cows. The big bulls have a tendency to hang back and let the little guys do the work of rounding them up. Those bigger fellows will show up. It amazes me every year how some big bulls can show up out of nowhere and the rut can kick off like somebody has hit the light switch. Lots of bulls this year. Enjoy the hunt and be patient. Thank God every day you can spend out there and the big boys will show up very soon.

It's always an adventure!!!
