What to do with 2 elk resident preference points???

So I have two points now and instead of waiting for something in unit 20 late, I am thinking of getting in 2 good hunts in those 4-5 years rather than just one good hunt.

I am open to muzzleloader even though I've never been, although I'd prefer rifle. I've hunted elk now for two years and seem to be able to get into elk, but unfortunatly I missed a bull two years ago so I'm still looking for my first bull. I've got a few hunts in mind, but I am just curious what people with more hunting experience think.

mmm 2 points is kind of an "inbetweener" in Colorado as far as elk go.. because you don't have enough to draw anything special but you have to many to waste on so so unit. I recommend you look in to muzzleloader hunts. Majority of the tags take 1 point to draw, but they are no longer a state wide tag so you need to be unit specific. Id do some homework and look into some areas. If you want to do a rifle hunt a first rifle tag might be a sure bet and the 4th season has been a producer for me in the past. My advice is just to look into as many options as possible and what kind of hunt suits you. PM me if you want some more help.

I am in the same boat as you with 2 resident pref points. Me personally I am going to get a 1st season rifle tag here on the western slope as a second choice and keep building points. I agree with Coloradoboy though 2 res points feels like an inbetween area for me as well.
