The MK85 was the very top of the line for their time. In fact there were in the top 10 rifles of all time for Outdoor life. They are simple and accurate. Finding them is spotty but worth the wait.
They are easy to clean and maintain. Just be sure that if you buy online make sure that the disassembly tool is included. Also make sure that it is legal for your state. Like Idaho requires a #11 cap or Musket cap. A lot of them were converted to shoot 209 primers. If one was make sure the original parts are with it.
There are plenty of rifles that have the ability to reach out to 300 yards.
The #1 ISSUE putting sights on that can reach out to 300 yards. This is a lot bigger problem than a lot of guys think. Factory sights are only good to about 100 to 150 at the most. Adding some kind of peep and globe sight will get a guy out a LONG way farther. The sight parts to do that are not available to all models.
