What's wrong with Utah hunters?

I live in Utah, so I feel I have a right to say this. I have hunted out of state for at least 10 years. I hunted bear in Idaho this year, and had trail camera's and treestands set up over bait for two months. I never worried that after a 5 hour drive my stuff would be gone. I set up 2 treestands, and trail camera's 2 weeks ago in my home state. I went to check them today. One of them the SD card was stolen. The other camera itself was stolen. WTF.

The other thing that pisses me off about Utah hunters is the beer cans everywhere. Really? You can pack in a 6 pack, but can't pack out the trash? Nothing more wonderous then hunting a bugleing elk right next to a pile of Natural Light trash. Come on Utah. At least my treestands are still there. finger's crossed it stays that way. maybe it's like that everywhere, but I have never had a problem in Idaho, or Wyoming. Sad deal. This is a great state, with some good hunting. I don't get it. I guess someone needed my camera's more then me

There seems to be a real sense of entitlement engrained in SOME Utah hunters. Just an observation from reading posts from Utah hunters. I guess it is finders keepers on public land in Utah or you are hunting "their" hunting spot.

Several things that you can do. I have not had any problems yet but my cameras are set up to send a photo to my computer or my phone. I do not always have it set up that way but can when I want. If someone messes with them, you have a picture. The other thing my neighbor was telling me is that you can get them chipped so if they are stolen, they can be found. I know that the police will do that every now and again when someone is stealing tools from a sight. Do not know if they will do it for someone in the public. I know that the DWR has had trouble with their camera's being taken. They said someone has some cameras with DWR printed on them.

If you read the proc in full detail, your not allowed to use cameras on forest service land other then one week before the hunt starts. I have heard from several people that when the forest service finds your camera they take the chip, just to let you know that they know where your camera is. Not saying this is the case but it could be. I guess I am just lucky with my cameras and tree stands, I have never had a problem with either one. Or maybe its because I buy the cheap crap just because I dont trust anyone, and nobody wants my cheap junk lol.

Forest service land . Not Blm land right ? I have heard this may happen. Never heard that it did ?

I would never leave anything overnight on public land. My gear leaves with me. I do not leave beer cans. Not trail cams. Not tree stands. Not nails stuck in trees. I take only memories when scouting, leave only footprints.

I would not leave a camera sitting on the side of a freeway and expect it to be there so no idea why would be there anywhere else that is public land.

Well at least they haven't cut down the tree that has your stand in it. Had a freind a few years ago they cut down the tree his stand was in then they hung there own stand in a diffrent tree. Just don't understand some people's way of thinking.

News flash! Lots of non hunters go into the hills too. Just cause your stuff was taken off a mountain, doesn't mean a hunter took it. It just as easily could have been an anti-hunter who wanted to mess up your hunt. Or some one who doesn't care either way and just wants to pawn your camera.
Quit being ignorant and blaming hunters.

I suppose your right MSY, it is an assumption. Weird that I came to that conclussion when I have these camera's on elk wallows That I had to hike into on non human trails. Hunters or not, why take someones stuff? I guess I was raised that if it's not your's don't take it. How silly of me.

Was there Wheeler Tracks?

STTM/Bess, that's a good idea about setting up another camera to watch the other.

LOL...lazy quad queer. Miss the ol tune up talks. Been on this site for awhile only recently got involved.

First of all, they are drinking Natural Light. That should tell you who you are dealing with right there. ;-) Second, people think that if they find it and there is nobody sitting in the tree stand or standing next to the camera then it's theirs for the taking. I'm not sure why they feel entitled to that. I bet they voted for Obama too!

It's always an adventure!!!

Chances of it being a non hunter are very small.

Everyone has an opinion.

Your camera on the side of the freeway example is not close to the trail cam up on a post or a tree. Just not a good example. Should you expect to be able to leave your vehicle for an overnight?

Come on guys. If the trail cam is legal, there is no justification for taking the cam or the media.

I was on one hunt in Utah, Book cliffs bull elk in 1997. There was a bear hunting season going on at the same time. I found all the elk hunters pretty good about their trash. But OMG the bear hunters, their barking dogs & beer cans bouncing around the back of their pickups were a pain. You knew one was coming from miles away. I filled my backpack several times with the beer cans they left everywhere, even in the middle of the roads. A couple stopped to ask me if I saw any bear, I said hell ya lots of them on the other side of the unit.

So I guess nobody in Idaho drinks beer or steals trailcams??? Wow, I guess I need to get out more. Utah really is a terrible place to live. :)

Trail Cams are Gay! I hate them, they are on every waterhole and tree anymore. Remember when you could go in the woods and not have your picture taken 25 times each time you go for a hike? The intrusion of cameras into the woods has become ridiculous!
No I have never taken, broken or even looked at the card in one.

I have met Utahan's and I have met full blown Utard's Utard's are the lowest form of sportsman, no respect, law breaking, unethicial and disrespectful. I feel for the real Utahan who gets labeled as a Utard. We see quite a few UTARD's in Wyoming and it is hard to understand what makes them the way they are...

Where the hell are we all headed with all this tech stuff? Maybe I'll rig up a rifle to my trailcam so I don't ever need to get out more than once....well... and again to retrieve my trophy after the camera kills it for me.

Ya, I'm old-school in my thinking but I thought that proper scouting was more fun than looking at pictures... unless you're into porn.

OP; Too bad your stuff was stolen but you've made a jack-azz blanket statement about Utah hunter. I would guess you did it out of anger. Maybe I'd make a dumb statement too if my stuff was stolen.

I've been around the block more than a few times and "those" kind of people live everywhere in at least equal abundance to Utah.

It's not just happening in Utah. My buddy's dad and son went out to check a camera they had set up on a small spring. GONE! This is in southwest Wy. I've got to where I don't even like to take my hunting gear along unless I plan on packing it with me. I'm afraid to leave it in the truck, even with the truck locked and things are out of sight. Maybe its time for a new kind of hunting season. Unlimited tags on low life thieves. Hide cameras to watch cameras and other gear, and post faces all over the place. Trouble is most of us can't afford multiple cameras. My friend only had one and now that is gone.
