I would like to pick up a pair before this falls hunt in NM 16A. But $1350 for Swarovski's is a bit much for my wallet. Any suggestions?

Thanx!

GRIZZ:

I bought a pair of Pentax DCF SP from Doug at Camerland. He gave me a great price, and the glass is unbelievable. They have a magnesium body, and are great in low light.

Falcon,

I've looked at Swarovski (big buck$). Considering Leupolds (still a lot of $), and Minox (don't know much about them). Just trying to obtain more info from people who've bought some already.

Thanx!

Does anyone have personal experience with the Minox 10x42? Or Cabelas?

The Nikon Premier LX-L is an amazing binocular. The birders speak of them quite highly and they are chosen over the Euros, hunters are just realizing the great value and quality that they offer.

If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

If you have no access to the 10x42 Minox's and would like to check one out I will send one to you. If you do not like it just send it back to us, if you do like it then your quest for a quality 10x42 is solved. All you risk is the cost of return shipping.

If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

Bite the bullet and buy the swaro's. Some of the others are nearly as good to look through but none are as durable as the swaro's.

Let's face it, I'll bet you are harder on glasses than even the most energetic birder.

D13er,

>Let's face it, I'll bet you are harder on glasses than even the most energetic birder.

LMAO. :) :)

God I hope so...if not I'm doing something wrong, or the birders are eating "pheasant under glass".

The question is "what binocs do you use"?

griz,

i've been comparing the nikon monarch atb 10x42 and the minox bl 10x42bd and they are pretty much the same and i'm having the internal struggle on which to buy because they are pretty similar...the minox's are a bit brighter and sharper but that nikon warranty and all the positive feedback from fellow hunters has me not sure which to get...i just looked through both pair for the 3rd or 4th time...unfortunately, i am unable to purchase swaro's because that is pretty much 1/2-3/4 of the tuition for my little girl and some things just have to take a back seat for a while...like i said, i like both pair and now it's just an internal tug-o-war on which to buy...

...doug, i will probably be calling you this week for a pair of new glass...

solrac

It will be my pleasure to assist you. Please keep in mind that Nikon has a 25 year warranty and Minox has a 30 year warranty. I do not think that either warranty should be a deciding factor. If you have found that the Minox is a bit brighter and sharper, as have I when I did a side by side, than the Minox is the one to get.
If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

You should take Doug up on his offer, The worse thing that could happen is you would have to ship them Back or send a check, LOL it a win/ win.

The Minox sound good. I just need to find a place that I can fondle them first. It would be nice to hear from some people who have purchased them already to get their opionions. They sound really new to the market which scares me a little with regards to long term usage.

Either way I neeed something in the 10x range.

Grizzly

i just ordered the minox 10x42's for a great price at camerland and am now anxiously awaiting them...

grizz, i finally found a pair over at sportsmans warehouse that i was able to look through, they didnt have them when i was first told about the minox binox...

doug, thanks for your patience over the past month or so and answering my questions in a timely manner

solrac

Grizz: Minox makes a real good bino. I have the Swarovski but wouldnt hesitate to use/buy Minox. I think they used to be owned by or still are owned by Docter optics. Good mid range glass. .............. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

ixsolracxi,

Let me know how you like them. Which Minox 10x42's did you end up buying? What will you be using them for?

Grizzly

Hey Doug I just bought a pair of Nikon Monarch ATB 10x42...just wondering what you thought about them. If I'm not happy with them, I've heard about the Minox 10x42. Was thinking about them, but I got a New Leupold Range finder also. Was wondering what you charge for the Minox's? And if it would be possible to check out a pair before buying them? You can pm me if you want. Thanks

ixsolracxi,

Gee Big Fella what did you have in mind? :0 Just kiddin'. My wife hi-hacked my computer earlier this week also. Things tend to get a little crazy around the house when I draw another against-all-odds tag. She doesn't believe we draw anything. I believe she really thinks we just stop at the local corner party store in NM and purchase our Valle Vidal or Gila tags over the counter on our drive out West. Wouldn't that be nice.

I'll send you a PM.

Grizzly

So i got a question for you guys. Are the Minox 10x42 that Doug has such a great buy on, the same ones that sportsmans sells for like 600 bucks? Or is that a different brand?

There are 2 Minox 10x42's
BD 10x42 BL
BD 10x42 BR ASPH
We carry both. The one that they sell for around $600.00 should be the BR ASPH.
I have PM'd pricing to you

If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

Oneshot,

They're also coming out with a higher end pair of 10x42's for around 30% more in the very near future.

Grizzly

oneshot,

the bd 10x42 bl at sportsmans were priced at $319...

grizz,

great editing job, now i'm feeling a little brokeback...and yes, it would be nice to head to your desired unit and pick up the license and tag on the way...i'm really driving my wife crazy with all my hornporn and calling, milling over maps...she actually gets it from both my 5 yr old daughter and myself =0)

i'll reply to your pm when i get home and pull out my maps

solrac

Please elaborate on what this new 10x42 will be, and how much $?

Thanx!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-06 AT 04:42AM (MST)[p]howdy doug, could you please pm me with the info about the new minox, prices, differences between the asph and these new ones ? also are the prices for the minox the same as they were 2 months ago ? the 10x58's 12x58's 12x52's 15x58's and 10x52's please ! thank you again.
M WAITE, AZ.

doug- I also forgot to ask you a question about leupold optics. what are your thoughts/opinions about the olympic model 10x50s camo ? just curious about these as they look and sound like good glass but never saw them before. thanks !
M WAITE, AZ.

Grizz, my hunting partner has a pair of 8x42's and 10x42 Minox binoculars. They are great glass and he usually spots the game between the two of us. Although I think he could out spot me using a pair of coke bottles. I use Swarovski EL's and I feel that they are better glass but your looking at $1,775.00 the last time I checked the prices as compared to $600.00 for Minox. Minox is great glass and definitely worth the money. It was stated above that Minox is owned by Doctor optics. Close but no cigar. They are actually owned by Leica who is a high quality manufacturer of optics as we all know. A year ago Minox and Leica were in the process of splitting away from each other which may explain why Minox is creating a higher end of optics to thier line of already upper class glass. Swarovski also ownes a mid range line of optics that go by the name of Kowa which I've heard are pretty good but have no first hand knowledge of thier quality. Lets talk about warranty. My buddy sent his Minox bino's into the Minox company last year for a minor repair and they sent him a loaner pair for hunting season. They fixed his pair up and sent them back promply. So it seems that they have no problem honoring thier warranty. I suggest going to Sportsmans and grabbing several pair of bino's and head outside to try them out as daylight fades into darkness and then decide what you want. Sounds like Doug of Cameraland would be a great source to deal with and seems to be very knowledgeable. I think I would check out those Nikon Premiers that he mentioned a couple of times. He deals with optics constantly and if he is impressed with them then I would definitely compare them with the other brands. I hope that this has been of some help. fatrooster.

ixsolracxi, I think I'd have to give my wife an airplane spin then body slam her onto the bed and tie her up into a pretzel then give her the tickle torture for sabotaging my my computer and calling you GAY! Goodluck with your wrestling match, ha ha. fatrooster.

At this time I am not a Leupold dealer. We are in talks with them and most likely we will become a dealer soon.
With that said, I have no comment on their optics because I have not had the opportunity to stack test them against other binocs.

Minox did split off from Leica about 1 year ago and from my understanding two of the head guys from Leica went to Minox to run the sports optics division. The quality is outstanding and IMHO they are low balling their pricing in order to get their product known in the market place.

The other optics company owned by Swarovski is Kahles. Similar situation, also a great quality optic at a lower price than the Swarovski.

As far as the Nikon Premier LX goes, this is a binocular that for a long time has gotten great reviews in the birding community but for some reason, until recently, has been unnoticed in the hunting community. Great glass at a lower price than the big three Euros. We do get refurb/demos from Nikon on these on a fairly regular basis @ a great price. The 8x32 LX-L has gotten amazing write-ups and the whole LX-L line is worth a look.

If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

Doug, you are right, Swarovski makes the Kahles line of optics and not Kowa. Thanks for the correction. I'm not looking for optics but I think I'll check out the Nikon. fatrooster.

I'll tell you this, I would put that Nikon 8x32 LX-L up against any of the three Euro 8x32's and IMHO it will be hard to see any difference. The Nikon 8x20 LX-L is a great pocket bino too.

If there is anything else that I can assist you with please let me know.

fatrooster...i tried that but she spun me onto my belly and locked my arm behind my back, lol...

...well, all, i'm going on my elk scouting trip of the year this weekend and will be able to put my new minox binox to use...i was looking at venus tonight and it was very bright and clear...

Doug, I am in the market for a pair of 10x42's. Like most people on this thread I am looking for the best value / quality. Can you please send me a PM with recomendations and pricing. They will primarily used for huning in the Northwest.

Doug,

I have been looking at the Nikon Monarch 10x42 for a little while. Would you mind sending me a PM with some info on them as well as any others you would reccomend.

Matt

I have a set of the Swarovski 10x42's. People told me I'd see lots more deer with them than my Pentax 8x42's. Ya right!

I like the greater power, but for the price difference, I'd probably go for the Pentax. I'm super cheap though and I just don't see the $1000.00 price difference.

My dad has the Pentax 10x42's, I used the 8x42's. Real good optics for the price.

I like the Swarovski's, but I feel like I'm wearing gold around my neck. They cost so much I stress out worrying that I might scratch them.
