Whitehall MT elk

How is the elk hunting around Whitehall? Just in general no specific spots but are there any elk in the area? Is it any better North of town than south? Looking for a place to go with my general tag. I would even be happy to shoot a cow i just mainly am looking for meat for the freezer. thanks

Head into the tobacco roots just south and east of town.....straight west and southwest in the highlands can produce a fair # of elk just very few large bulls..........i usually see cows and small raggies almost every time i go up there.
