As Gator lead to it is a bit early for the rut but they are fairly predictable at this point. Bucks are taking interest in does but the does still aren't ready. Find a travel corridor between food and bedding with a bottle neck and set up your stand near this area down or cross wind. Big bucks use cover and usually will travel down wind paralling the main trail. If you know the area you will be hunting google earth can be a huge asset to use and predict where the main trails and transistion areas will be in relation to feed and bedding. Bucks will be working these areas starting their routine of searching of a hot doe. I wouldn't use any deer scents or sounds since they are not 100% focused on does yet. Don't give your position away. If a scent is to be used I'd look for something locally found in your hunt area as a cover scent, i.e. cattle crap, raccoon piss, dirt, specific trees/brush/shrubs etc. When looking at rubs and scrapes look for an over hanging limb which is about 6 feet up and rub which has rubbings about chest high or higher. The higher the rub and the higher the overhanging scrape scent limb typically the bigger the buck. Sounds like you have a great hunt planned. Good Luck ! ! !
