Why did they change the deer hunt from 5 regions to a different ordeal it used to be northern , northeastern , central, southern, and south eastern I miss the old regulation why the change?
Too many people were concentrated in various smaller pockets within the previous larger areas. It was changed to force spreading people out throughout areas and putting groups of people and tags into areas more specifically consistent with animal populations and population goals. That's an overall guiding theory for the direction anyway.
In theory, so they can manage deer on a herd basis not a region basis. Whether or not they are actually doing this, and not just selling tags is up in the air. I have not seen marked improvement in the areas I hunt, however it sounds like southern Utah is doing much better.
