LAST EDITED ON Nov-26-06 AT 08:08PM (MST)[p]This is a pic of a buck that I guided my buddy to. The sad part of the story is this: He shot the buck at 6 pm. We tracked it and found it alive at the top of the hill in the pic. We made another sneek on him and he delivered one fatal arrow to the heart. The buck stood up and then fell and began to tumble. He proceeded to roll untill he stoped at the bottom of the hill where the pics were taken. When we caught up with the deer we were surprised that the velvet was not even scratched much less any broken antlers. After cleaning the deer we tucked it in a set of reeds near a creek and began our five mile walk out of the canyon bottom at dark. As we walked in the next morning we couldnt help but think of what could happen leaving the animal over night unatended. When we arrived we were thrilled to see the big buck laid right were we left it untouched. After hours of packing the animal out we made it to camp with every once of meat and the cape. Since he was the only one of the four of us to tag out and we had one day left in the season, we decided to cover the meat and hunt the next day befor returning home. We loaded all the meat into coolers and covered the meat with sealed bags of ice. We didnt have a large enough cooler for the antlers and cape so we wraped it in a large canvas tarp and placed it under the RV for the day. When we returned to camp that evening we were devistated to find the head and cape laying in the dirt. The toung had been chewed out of the deers mouth and the antler tips had been chewed down about four inchs per point. We arnt sure weather coyote's did this or the dogs of a near by ranch did the damage but at any rate we were in shock. When we got back to town we took the head straight to the taxidermist. He told us that since we had pics befor the damage that he could resurect the antlers and recover them with velvet and nobody would be able to tell. Here is the question that has taken me so long to ask. Will the buck still be scorable after it is recreated? I know this is a P&Y buck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also feal free to take a guess at what you think he would have scored.
