I have another question, you guys have been a great help!

so I was up taking closer pictures of a winchester model 94-30.
Before, I noticed some engraving in the stock, but never looked to close at it.
I started looking at it, and I'm not so sure it's a factory engraving job, in fact I'd be suprized if it was.

1st, can you tell me what you think? Is it a factory engraving job?
2nd, if it's not, what will this do to it's value? I deffinatly realize it lowers the value, but by how much?
here is a picture:

thanks for the help!

No, that is not from the factory. That running deer was common in the 60's and a few hunters did carve it on their butt stocks. Will lower the value of the gun, how much depends on the buyer.

RELH

relh is right.
but, some buyers/collectors like vintage engraving. That gun may go for $400-$700 depending on the buyer.
Is it yours? selling?
If you had a dated photogragh that showed the carving is almost as old as the rifle, you'd be amazed at what it would sell for...

I have a picture of a relative posing with a decent 4 point and his model 100 winchester. (rifle laying in the antlers) the picture is dated october 1964 (which means the gun was very new). And there was a deer head engraved in the stock. I have no idea where the rifle is. :(
