Winter Conditions for Elk

They say elk seem to handle sever weather better than deer! Even though the winter is not over yet, does anyone think this year is going to be a problem for the for elk in any areas?

You can’t hardly kill mountain rats…. They’re going to be fine. Bigger antlers too!

Elk are moving down lower then I have ever seen. Took a picture today of a cow that got hit by a car in Perry. I have never seen them anywhere close that low to the highway and for sure never seen one hit out that way.

I have witnessed some pretty tough winters since I moved to Idaho, the elk seem to be absolutely unfazed by bad winters. Deer get slaughtered.

I currently have 15 points for elk and will be trying to pull my archery tag this year. At this point it looks like the the snow is going to give some much needed moisture to central Utah, with out the stress of too much cold and snow for the elk. On the other hand I will just be building points for the deer.

If you’re unsure about how they are doing, drive up to echo junction and either way you head you will see multiple elk dead on the road and lots more by the road. I saw a udot loader driving the side of the road just loading dead elk a month ago, doubt it has gotten any better
