My grandfather was stationed in Guam and he gave this to me before he died.
Can anyone translate the custom stitching on the strap?

Best place to find out would be a war museum curator. Great family heirloom regardless. Deployed to Anderson awhile ago dumpy base but I bet one could find some cool stuff still laying around the jungle from that time.

Did an internet search on "WW2 Japanese canteens with stitching". Found quite a bit of information on canteens including ones with names stitched on the strap. There is a war relics forum that also had some information on other stamps and markings on the canteens. Also, many of them for sale on various sites.

wow my grandfather was a medic on guam at the airbase there in ww2.
