"A new state-mandated report on the feasibility of transferring management authority for 25 million publically owned acres to the state of Wyoming concludes that the process would be a financial, administrative, and legislative burden.Ultimately, the report prepared for the Office of State Lands and Investments (OSLI) says that the state would inherit costly land management issues, like wildfire and litigation, if it were to manage the lands that currently belong to all Americans."

....but let me guess....we'll keep pushing this crap here in good old Utah.

We got lawyers, lobbyists, and conservation groups to feed, of course we will.

Those hayseeds in wyoming, what do they know anyway?

My bet is that hoss was smiling and the comment was TIC.

Wyoming figured out what Utah hasn't been able to...yet I hope.

This whole BS has and will cost everyone a ton of dough even if it doesn't transfer ownership. Sad deal for those of us who love wild things and wild places.

Thanks for the report

Being a resident of Wyoming for 20 years now I could really stir the pot on this issue...having the states control the
federal ground in their own area would definitely have its pros and cons...

But if the state goes bankrupt trying to manage those lands, there are no pros. At least not for the general public.

As another Wyoming resident ( hayseed :)), I am totally against transferring federal lands to the states...ANYWHERE. I don't see any good outcome from that.

The only good outcome I could see is a huge boost in motel and KOA. Bookings, as we all know you cannot legally camp overnight on Wyoming state land

I'll preface this by saying I am totally against a state transfer of federal lands. That being said the argument that we will no longer be able to camp overnight if a transfer happened is ridiculous. Don't you think they would change that if a transfer happened? Stick to the real arguments against a transfer. It would be too expensive for the state to manage therefore it would result in massive sales of land and that the only reason the States would want to have control of the land is to exploit it for revenue gain.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-25-16 AT 10:02PM (MST)[p]Don't be so serious, I'm being a little humorous, but the fact that we can't camp on state land now shows a little insight into what would happen over time, and the mentality of our state run legislature is always a question. Of course that mentality would change also, and does change. And that's the biggest problem with letting any state have control of what is now federal land.

The ever changing political landscape would have much of the valuable public lands sold off in pretty short order,
