Day 4 of X-10. First year hunting X-10 and didn't know what to expect. We went 3 for 3. Saw a TON of hunters opening weekend but held stronge until opener was over, probably 50% of the other hunters were gone come Monday and it seemed as though the deer started to settle on down with a lot less pressure. It was a very fun hunt with high elevation, cool temperatures, light rainfall/thunderstorms, sage hills to timber, lots of water, and endless territory to walk, my phone tells me I hiked 42 miles in 6 days between 7000-8500ft elevation. I shot this buck at about 315 yards across canyon pushing some does in the afternoon after a lot of walking all day. I nestled myself on into position on a boulder, chambered my Winchester Pre-64 Mod.70 30-06 with 180 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, put my Leupold Vari-X II on 9 power, held the crosshairs oh his spine and the rest is history. Cut him in half and My old man and I spent the next 3 hours hauling him out of the South Sierra Wilderness.
