Cactus or Toomer?

I know there are some biologists running around on here,so I figured I'd see what you think of this. I passed it on the my local DOW officer, he figures its a Fibrous Toomer. Looks to me like it might be covered in velvet?

YUCK!! When I look at that picture, it honestly makes me a little sick to my stomach. I think that if i was out hunting and saw that deer, I'd shoot him just to put him out of his misery, and I'd probably just let him lie. I'd be to afraid to eat him, what if it was contageous? Scott

Cool picture. I'd say cactus. I've seen several like that, just not as sevier. For sure to be his demise in a short time.

Wow, I'd shoot him . I don't know that that buck has much of a chance living among mtn. lions , coyotes and other predators much longer now that his site is very restricted...
