Uintah Basin Shed Bust

I was talking to my buddy and one of his buddies went out to the basin for the opener. He was driving before first light and he saw 2 dnr trucks with there lights on and a duchesne county sheriff with his lights on. So he said they slowed down as they went by and the DNR was unloading a horse trailer into the truck they had the bed of the truck over full and were still stacking as they went by he said. Anyone else see this bust over the weekend. I'm curious to see how many they had stuffed in the trailer.

Like elk , this is just hear say. The DWR has been watching him for 2 weeks took 27 brown from him early Saturday morning.That's the rumor.

My guess is the pics will surface here in a couple weeks. I wonder if the DNR will have an auction this year with all the antlers they have seized. I know in the past it's been about every 3-4 years they've had the antler auction.

I live out in the basin and I just found out it was a shed bust they stashed horns and they got caught.

Forgive the ignorance of a flat-lander, but how is there so much money to be made from elk sheds that folks will break the law to get at them.

I look for whitetail sheds too but only to get out into the woods come spring time and they really serve no purpose other than something cool to look at.

Like hornkiller said brown elk horns are bringing $13.00 per pound.The average elk horn weighs between 3 to 7 pounds that's a butt load of money.Big bulls will be 8 to 12 pounds.

And I get a kick out of people talking about "all the money" as if it is all net profit, as if there is no time, effort and expense to be deducted.

The biggest variable to effect pricing is the advent of "elk antler dog chews" in recent days/years, ever check out the poundage price yuppies will pay for their dog to ccccccrunch on a horn?

I figure my dogs have et about $10K in the last 25 years ungrateful bastards...

Personally, if rumors are true, I hope they confiscated the trailer. Bite hard and people will listen. I for one believe the closure is a good thing. Opinions vary

I hope whoever he is, he gets what's coming to him. I and my wife hiked are ass's off, and we didn't find a thing. On the opener, I found foot tracks on top that weren't too old. Just pisses me off that people can't just wait for the opener.
