SCI/Las Vegas Dinner

I am going to be going to dinner one evening with a couple from Namibia to discuss their operation and a possible future safari.

Where is a nice but not top top end place to go? A steakhouse is great; I am just not that familiar with Las Vegas.

I don't need a Ruth Chris type place; just something nice.

go get a buffet right there at mandalay bay. Its a nice place and right there just off the sci show floor. Excellent food and a nice place if you ask me. One of the best buffets I've ever had. that is if you like an AYCE king crap, fillet mignon, prime rib, scallops, etc buffet.

I'm still looking into finalizing my safri for this year. Wanting to go on a classic type safari for leopar hippo buff, croc, and sable. see ya there maybe. Exciting place for me.

I want to go to Namibia on a Plains Game hunt and also visting seriously about going to Zim for a Buff/Plains Game hunt.

I would really like a Hippo somewhere along the way as well.

Been talking to some guys in Zambia but that is pretty dang expensive with all the gvt fees. Not as bad as Tanzania but still high.

dude come hang with me. I'm looking into a very reputable guy in zimbabwe. How's this strike you?

1 loepard $5000
2 buffalo $5000
1 croc $5000
2 sable $6000
(only pay for these if i shoot them)

Daily rates total for me and my wife $1200/day total for both!

14 days hunting = $16,800
leopard and 2 buff would be $26,800

then pay trophy fees for anything else you want.
eland = $1200
zebra $800
kudu $1000
etc.
Only thing I "HAVE" to pay for is daily rates. The crocs and leopard in this area are big and the chance for a big buff is def there.

I got a quote for 1 buff and 1 leopard in zambia and it was $53,000! which is insane!

Its a no brainer for me. I'm going to zimbabwe!

Hey, are you going to be in SLC at the Expo after SCI?...I plan on having my Utah Bull Elk from this year on display there if you want to come by and take a look! Its only a short drive from Vegas! LOL! Anyhow, if not, I'll forward you some photos of the mount when I get him completed! we'll see you later in February!

Little Joe, Glad to hear your trophies all made it to Utah in Great shape....Sometimes that can be the biggest challenge hunting in Africa....at least for a Taxidermist here in the States.

I'm not going to utah but if your going to sci vegas I would love to hook up. If you want a big cat kevin you need to meet with my ph. Hes sitting here with me now and says he can hook you up with a minimum of a 16" leopard skull which is huge. He's helping set me up with my zim hunt but is putting me on hold. He knows the owners of the zambia company that is quoting me for a 45" buff and monster leopard. Said hes almost positive he can get my price down another $10,000 which will put it in my price range. You really should meet with him. I know motshwere is good and I know all about them which is why I gave that safari to Jason last year but please get a lot of advice before you book a loepard hunt as those things are hard to get if you are looking for a really monster cat.

Kevin. Ian said he will be in utah. He can meet with you there. I highly advise you to talk with him. If he personally can guide you to a giant animal he will and for a darn good price. However the specific aread I want to hunt this year he doesn't have access to so he's going ahead of me to talk with the owners to get my quotes way down. He's also pointed me towards the better outfitters in the past and his help is invaluable.

BTW. he just showed me a wilderness bongo dogless hunt he has in the congo. $30,000 for a 32" to 36" bongo which is huge and friggin cheap. call me if you wanna talk to him.

He will be there the 6th to the 14th of february. You should have him come by and talk at your house if you want but whatever you do don't let him play my last safari video he put together. That big black giraffe bull I shot was way cool but some of the rest of that video is a little embarrasing.

I will be in SLC. Who is your PH there with? On the huntexpo website it shows 1123 is Dome Creek Outfitters.

He is Ian Van Der Vyver, hence vdv safaris.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-12 AT 08:50AM (MST)[p]I'll check out VDV at the hunt expo. The rates posted above seem a bit high for Zim these days, but it is all about the area and the quality of the expereince. If he has a gerat concession, these are right in line. Good luck on your safari.
