I live very far from this area so I didn't scout as much as I would have liked. 9 yrs waiting to ML hunt an area with super low deer densities was a huge mistake on my part. I should have waited for a rifle tag or hunted another area numerous times. Nice area, nice people, low deer densities...

Just getting back ML hunt. By far the worst place and time to hunt that I have been. Went 1 for 2. Took 9 points, wish I never did that.

Heading out this weekend to Muzzleloader Unit 66 deer. Any tips on how high we have to go to find deer or are they anywhere?

A friend went doe hunting this last fall and the numbers for all deer were way down. It will take years to build the herd back up in Eastern MT. This mild winter should help though.

Tough hunt, Elk move down to Private land or Montana. Lots of hunters at the lower elevation.

Ouch, 31 is a very hard unit to draw so I thought someone would be willing to help since it's likely a NR once or maybe twice hunt. Not so concerned about where to get an elk, I'm fully capable of figuring that out myself, but on how to hunt an area that isn't shown on TV or in books. Desert...

I recieved my elk tag for 31 yesterday. Anyone have any help for me? Never drove through the area before but from photos it doesn't appear to be much for trees. Where do the elk hide? Which areas should I start looking?

You could call the BLM office in that area to make sure. I've never had a problem parking in the approach and leaving room for a vehicle to get by. I would stay out of the ditch. All state and local laws are different so do some research for that area. BLM rangers have more authority to enforce...

I won't go there again, not worth it. Still love Montana though.

I'm taking my 17 yr old nephew and his dad to 49 elk first rifle season. Any tips on how to find the elk, never been there before. I don't have a tag so I'll have plenty of time to look for deer.
