    Montana results?

The deer combos were a draw, more applicants then permits. So those of you that applied for the Big Game Combo but chose to get a refund on the elk part if you didn't draw the LE elk. So, no way are you going to get a deer combo.

    Living in MT

I did the move from MN to MT. We are building a home near Lewistown. In my opinion the Judith Basin is the best of the best in MT, or anywhere for tat matter.

    Region E

For sure there is a lot of high sage desert in region E. In my experience the sage holds few deer, Get in an area where the sage meets with the foothills or canyons. Like the breaks near the Sweetwater River, Beaver Rim Down to the Creek is good Muley Country, Green Mountain has good deer...

    Region E

I've spent a lot of years tromping around in region E. What do you prefer, High Rugged mountains, deep rugged badlands, pine hills or never ending sage?

    Montana 630-631 Archery "Breaks"

You wont have trouble finding public land. There's private to but it belongs to APR and others that are in the BMA's. Hot in early Sept, usually, and yep, mosquitos and snakes. You do have a better advantage with the elk before they are being chased around. But then the rut will be going on more...

    Montana 631-21

In my opinion the pressure from boats and those gaining access to the breaks from the shore is more significant then the pressure by the road hunter. The best way to avoid the hunting pressure is to study the maps, find areas that you can get off the wheeled trails by a deep canyon or better...

    Opheim Aera Mule Deer

I've been hanging around this area for a long time. Nemont is right on, a few years ago it was all good deer hunting. Opheim South, North and East is White tail country. More private property and crops, CRP, etc. To the West and SW is badland stuff. Bitter Creek, State, and BLM. Open country for...

    Alder MT

I was hunting Mule Deer in area 620 opening week. Driving South I saw all these trucks parked and hunters out in the Sage in horse shoe position kneeled in the sage. What the heck? but I knew what was happening. Elk drive, chasing the herd off private property into the open, so I parked and...

    Western Wyoming Quality

Seems its the overall health of the buck at the start of the new antler growth and at peak antler growth. A buck coming out of a hard Winter is probably stressed to the point that antler growth would be effected. And for sure a dry Spring without the high quality forage would be a factor. Or...

    Drew 410-20 eny Elk Tag

I've archery hunted elk in 410. Missouri Breaks are one of the best either sex rifle draws in the state. Hard draw for sure especially a NR. Congratulations. Good elk population and normally are spread out though the Breaks and herds well up and into the sage hills. And hunters will have the...

    Anti Hunt Rally In Yellowstone

Speaking of tree hugging lefties. They sure get worked up and bent all out of shape when someone makes a joke or negative comment on the Canadian wolves in Montana. And whats wrong with having wolf pelts. Everyone should collect a few. Whether bought, hunted, trapped or run over with your...

    Anti Hunt Rally In Yellowstone

mtmuley with about 3700 posts and a job where you can spend most of your time at the net, you spend a lot of time on the keyboard promoting the Canadian wolves. I have to work and 200 posts. I'm the Keyboard Jockey. :)

    Anti Hunt Rally In Yellowstone

LAST EDITED ON May-29-14 AT 08:12AM (MST)[p]OUR cause, now that's funny. :) You support the introduction of the Canadian Wolves. I see it for what it is. It's a disaster as far as deer and elk hunting in Western MT. Think what it's costing in revenue for FW&P. And the state of MT. 85% of the...

    Little Belts

Excellent plan to do 5 days Summer scouting. Will save tons of down time later. The Little Belts are a little more gentle then most MT mountains farther West and South. Still there is plenty of rough, steep, timber choked stuff. Most of the peaks are around 7-8 thousand feet. High country...

    Little Belts

The Lewis and Clark National Forest covers a big area in the Little Belts. Deer numbers aren't great but Mulies are throughout. Ready to back out meat? get back in a ways, some good bucks here and there.

    Non-Resident Question

I guess You'll need a gun training certificate. Then apply by the 15th of March for the MT Non Resident Deer Combination. That will give you the state wide general deer. You can then apply for limited draw areas. These are mostly a hard draw for NR's. However, the general deer license will get...

    I GOT A PROBLEM BOYS!!!

That does sound like a grown up tree. So how big is the bar on the 066? You maybe need a big boys saw. :) Go out at night, the Forest Service Lady, ain't likely to be around? Those tree climbing things the stick flickers use work OK. Just put them on the back side, that big of a tree. Heck...

    Snakes while hunting

Sept MT badlands there is no shortage of Ratlers. Last Sept I came across an old guy camped at a reservoir. Cooking supper on the coleman. I thought he was cooking fish, then I saw the snake skins. :o I got all the info I need, I maybe? will give it a try, someday?

    I GOT A PROBLEM BOYS!!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-13-14 AT 07:38AM (MST)[p]What's the big deal? climb up and get it. Take your saw up and cut the branch or top the condor is on. Not the 066 a pack saw. You cut the whole tree down? the perty birdie will be killed on impact. :(

I'm glad I'm not the only shed hunter here. I'd hate to have more restrictions, crazy! Muley finds from 2013. You can see by the bleach I don't shed hunt in the deep snow. Pic was taken Oct 2013.

Mexican wolves thriving AZ and NM

Heres something to add from a Gray Wolf Expert. The more opportunity for wolves to kill/feed on a prey species. (such as Wintering Elk and Deer) The healthier the wolves the more energy or endurance the predators have for an advantage over the prey. And the more picky the wolves are about what...

    Age and Genetics

LAST EDITED ON Apr-06-14 AT 08:28AM (MST)[p]Rich, good post. Drought, bad Winter conditions an injury? will likely keep a potential BC buck short of the books. Normal conditions with mature bucks at their optimum potential from say 5 1/2 to 10 1/2 years old will mostly all have some darn...

    Age and Genetics

Just wondering if you guys know? A deers genetics don't change. For instance, A buck has the EXACT same genetics as a fawn, fork, trophy class 7+ year old. Just because a buck matures DOES NOT change his genetic potential to produce record class offspring.

    Non-Res Combo Apps

The hardest work this mtmuley does is drag the deer off the road to get a pic. :) It's true, if you have closed private property to hunt where wolves have concentrated elk and deer you can do real well, why not praise the Canadian wolves. They can be a asset.

    Non-Res Combo Apps

I do find it interesting, funny actually. :) How FWP is trying hard to promote NR license sales. They say 85% of MT elk areas are at or above management quotas. OK, so those 15% were the best general hunt areas in the state. Now managed for the Canadian Wolves. The rest of the above...
