2006 has been a good year for me. I've been on alot of hunts with many friends. Finally I had the tag and the rifle in my hands. The day before the hunt started I backpacked into the same area I did last year. I set up camp only 80 yards from where I shot my deer last year. Opening morning I sat and watched a big canyon where I saw two big bucks the year before. I knew my huntin buddies would be in the area first thing that morning and would be pushing deer around. The first couple of deer bout ran me over, just a spike and doe. As I sat I could hear something running through the snow just out of my sight. It was a nice buck and a few does. The buck was only a two point but had deep forks and even wider than the deer I shot.
That evening I went back to the big canyon. Before I got to far I noticed my favorite leather gloves had fallen out of my pocket. So I decided to back track my steps to find em. I did. Since I was so close to my tent I thought I would ditch some stuff so the pack would be a little lighter. As I approached my tent I could see a deer on the ridge behind it. Pulled up the nocks and noticed it was a buck. At first it looked like a three point. As I was watching the deer I could hear somebody walking through the crusty snow. I knew the hunters would not see the deer they were walking right towards so I set up. They spooked the deer right towards me. When I noticed he was a four point and that they were a safe distance from the other hunters I shot. He ran straight down hill towards my tent. The other hunters never saw the buck and said they thought I was using my gun scope to look at the does. I wonder how many bucks we've all walked past during the hunt.
This is the big buck my buddy shot on the third evening. Grossed 182 with 6 points on each side plus double eyeguards. He has huge fronts and a small dropper. Very unique frame and yes he is getting him mounted.
