Let's see some of your best wildlife photos that you shoot in 2009. Also let us know what camera you shot them with and what lens if applicable. I hope everyone who took some photo will add to this thread.

Happy New Year. BB

These photos were taken at the end of Nov. 2009 with my Olympus E-3 with my 70-300 lens.

I will add some other images I shot throughout the year as time allows.

Again I encourage everyone to add the shots they took on this thread.

Have a good one. BB

I spent 30 days in Colorado with the P-90 and in all that time I never took one photo I would post on this thread as not one came out good. I don't know why, but the one I got just was not a good camera and would not take a good photo.

Here's a few photos I took on that trip with my Olympus E-3.

Here are a few more mule deer.

I took this one the second day of the archery hunt above SLC.

Before I went to Colorado last fall on my elk hunt, I purchased a Nikon P-90. I got a lot of chances to take a lot of photos of elk, deer, coyotes and bear, but none of them came out. I can't remember ever being so disappointed with a camera.

These are the best photos I got with that camera for the 6 weeks I had it. I returned it for the Panasonic FZ-35 and like the photos from that camera far better than from the Nikon.

Anyway these are the best photos that camera could take and I think you will see why I was so disappointed.

Have a good one and choose your camera wisely for many reasons. BB

Say BB, I recently bought a FZ-35 from Joel and I might add a super deal. I was taking some pics of deer with it this weekend in low light and everything came out fuzzy and blurry. Curious as to what setting you would reccomend for low light wildlife situations.
Thanks TK

Shooting in low light can be very challenging to say the least. The darker in most cases, the harder.

In low light, shoot with your camera's aperture towards its lowest number and make sure your shutter speed is adequate for hand holding if you are shooting that way. Many times, in low light, a person will be forced to shoot off a good tripod. In order to get your shutter speed up, you will probably have to not only shoot a low aperture setting, but also up your ISO setting to achieve this.

Notice the sticks on the ground in this photo I attached with this post. It is one I shot several years ago of a bear, early one morning, that walked by me at very close range, in poor shooting light. I tried to move the camera as the bear walked by, but notice how blurry and fuzzy the shot ended up being. That was a result of poor light, and not having the time to set things up like I should.

Low lighting can have some great effects, but it also is challenging and can cause the effects you mentioned. Just shoot a lot of photos and keep practicing and you will begin to learn what you need to do and what your camera can and can not do.

Have a good one. BB

Bill-

Your skill just keeps getting better and better. While your pictures were always good, I think that the work you have put into learning your craft has really shown in the last year. I enjoy all of your photos.

We have talked before about the noise factor of a dSLR at close range, as well as the bulk factor. I am going to break down and get a FZ-35 soon. Do you use a tripod much at all with any of your setups or are most of your shots hand held? Also, is the FZ-35 user friendly for manual settings?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt, thanks for the kind words. I just got into photography a few years back and am just a beginner, but I sure do like the challenge. I have bowhunted for 50 years so I have learned some of what it takes to get close to critters. With my camera I can shoot every critter I see and hunt all year long. It's been fun, challenging and rewarding.

I shoot most everything I do free hand, but do use a tripod on some occasions. I don't recall ever using a tripod with the FZ-35. It's an easy camera to use and I never shoot it on auto, and yes its quite user friendly and easy to learn the manual settings. At least it has been for me.

I think you would love the camera and the photos it takes. For a point and shoot it does very well.

Have a good one. BB

Thanks for feedback BB. I guess I will have to learn more about the camera. Have not started messing with those settings yet.
Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-10 AT 11:11PM (MST)[p]Here's another that I took last summer that I really like. A friend did a little (al lot, really) post-shot work on it to clean it up some.

O.K. neverstophuntin

You have already shamed us, but the shot with the buck in velvet
surrounded by a lush green forest, outlined by a huge burnt tree is too much.

Never and I plead never show us anything that good again!

Or I will have to throw all my photo gear in the lake and jump in after it.

Just kidding, Great stuff!!!

If you notice, the bottom buck is the same buck from the 1st photo. He ended up scoring 183.
