LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-17 AT 03:16PM (MST)[p]Long time listener, first time caller. My dad has built up 9 nonresident preference points for deer in Colorado. Over the last year or so his knee has started to bother him and I think it's time to cash in those points before something happens and he can't get out and hunt hard like he does now. He would be happy with any buck, but I would prefer that we get to look at a lot of deer (because I love watching mule deer) and him have an opportunity to shoot a high quality buck. He's hunted elk with me in units 18, 19, 20, and most recently unit 10 (all for cows). This past season in unit 10 we hiked 5 miles in one day and nearly 8 miles the next day. He's not afraid to put in some miles or climb a steep hill, and we are willing to backpack in and camp if that makes sense. We both would prefer to get away from roads and ATV traffic if possible. Roadless areas and Wilderness Study Areas are a positive in that regard.
In addition to the above referenced units, I've also hunted units 21, 28, and 30. I'm thinking a 3rd or 4th season tag is the way to go. Unit 30 would be nice, but it takes more points than he's got to draw that 3rd season tag. Same with 10 or 21. I've been looking at unit 22 3rd season as an option, though it looks a bit road heavy for my personal preference. Any other recommendations for spending 9 non resident points? Feel free to PM me.
