I have shot 5 elk (2 bulls and 3 cows) with my .270 with 150 grain bullets. As stated from others, its all about the shot placement. The only thing that a lower caliber lacks (like a .270) is knockdown power at long distance (obviously). I shot my last bull at 480 yards and he just stood there when I put 3 shots behind the shoulder. He didn't even move, but fell over dead within 30 seconds or so after the shots.
