If the draw works out (it never does but I digress) I will be hunting NM for elk where they allow scopes and I believe sabots and Colorado with no pellets or sabots or scopes. I would like to have one load that should be a go to load and bullet. I will be hunting deer and elk.

Looking to maybe get a turret scope for the NM hunt. or any other suggestion for a scope to stretch my range to say 300. The gun I have is a TC triumph 50 cal. it is a shooter in Colorado with open sights so thinking it will be good with glass.

Did you draw a NM tag? Congrats if you did. I did not. :(

Anyhoo you should be fine for accuracy at 300 yards with some BH209 (85.0gr by weight) and a 300 gr SST/Shockwave in a Harvester sabot. The problem comes with energy, or the lack there of. I would limit that combo to 250 yards for bull elk. Perhaps going with some of the new high BC bullets will work better but they are expensive. Even pushing a 300 gr X-Series bullet 2100 fps at the muzzle only gives you 1500 ft lbs at 250 yards.

Range Velocity Energy Trajectory
0. 2350 4218.0 -1.5
100 2146 3516.0 0
200 1952 2910.0 -6.1
300 1770 2392.0 -21.3
400 1601 1957.0 -47.7
500 1446 1597.0 -87.7
600 1309 1310.0 -144.4
700 1194 1089.0 -221.4
800 1104 931.0 -322.7
900 1036 819.0 -452.8
1000 982 737.0 -615.0

That's my table for my hunting load with 344 grain high bc and bh209. Little bit faster than 2100fps. I run a nightforce shv.
