Well, finally it all came together for me with this nice Utah Muley!
I was hunting with my buddy last thursday on a evening hunt in the area we had scouted. We hunted hard and the only thing we had seen was a 2 point and some does. As we decided to head back to the truck off the mountain I looked down below me and saw three bucks. The big one that I ended up taking and two other little bucks. My heart started pumping when I saw the bigger buck through my binos with his huge forks! I just kept telling my buddy that is a dang nice buck! To make a long story short the deer busted one of us and took off across the mountain. I booked it across the mountain and as luck would have it, I got in front of the biggest buck and was able to cut him off. Not knowing for sure where he was, I stepped out from behind some trees and there he was 93 yards away and we both saw each other at the exact same time. Knowing he had already had been spooked and was about ready to bust, I knew it was now or never. I ranged him put the 90 yard pin on him and let it fly! I heard the wallop sound of a good hit and he went crashing down the mountain. I watched where he ran to and then not wanting to push him we decided to wait until morning to track him down. We found him right after first light dead in his bed!
He scores 185 and is as good in real life as he looks in the pics. Outiside spread of 26" inches and is just a sweet buck! I feel very grateful and fortunate to have taken such a nice buck. He has one ear that is split that I think happened from fighting and just has some cool old character.
In regards to the long shot. Some people have different opinions on long shots. I practiced alot and was shooting the right equipment for the shot. I was confident I could make it happen and I did. The deer was broadside and with a slight angle towards me. The arrow at 93 yards traveled through the deers whole body after entering behind the shoulder and came out at the back leg. I can tell you this, I am now a grim reaper believer! Sweet broadheads! Good luck to all of you on your own hunts!
