Rifle BookCliffs Bucks 2011
LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-11 AT 03:42PM (MST)[p]2011 will be one of the best hunts I will probably ever have, not only because of the great success we had but the memories I will always have with my Family and Friends. My friend and I had been putting in for San Juan Archery for years I had 9 and he had 10 points. But decide to switch to Bookcliffs to have a shot at helping my uncle draw bringing our points to 8. My dad and my uncles health has not been the greatest over the last year or so and because of our awesome DWR here in Utah my dad is loosing intrest fast. So we switched so that I could have one last great hunt with my Dad and Uncle (awesome friend for switching). All though my dad didn't get a tag because he had the tag 5 years ago I think he was just as excited as me. We have been out there a dozen or so times in the past 6 to 7 years so we had a good feel for the unit. We still decide to take a trip out during the summer to look over roads in an area of the unit we had not hunted and see how well the horn growth was, and it was awesome i seen atleast 6 maybe more that would go 180 or more talk about awesome for that time of year 4th July weekend. After that we did not make another trip out fuel costs were just to much, besides we felt like we knew the unit well enough and the deer would move anyway. I headed out Thursday mourning before the hunt and we spent the evening and all day friday scouting, found the buck for my friend friday night which is Pictured first and after 5 bags of sunflower seeds several gallons of fuel and 1500+ miles later we ended up with 3 great deer. First buck Pictured is my friends 4x4 26" wide and scores 166 killed opening mourning. Secound buck is mine 4x4 25" wide great mass and scores 182 5/8 killed Wednesday of the hunt. Third one is my uncles 3x4 28" wide shot 700+ yards away and rolled off a 20' cliff and rolled atleast 100 yards before stopping, broke back 2 points on the left but taxidermist can fix, had to repel deer down the rest of the way to get him out. Awesome hunt not the biggest I probably could have held out and got maybe better but I got the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to my Dad and my Uncle, my cousin she was great to have there and 2 great friends one for switching over to maybe not are first choice of units and the other friend for coming the whole trip and helping get all the deer out.
