So we were in the mountains and spotted 5 elk about 2 miles out. 4 we could tell were bulls but one looked like a cow. Couldn't be so we decided to get closer to see if it was a legal spike. We moved in and a 1000 yards out got a good look. It looks like a really old bull who's right antler grows down the side of his head with a brow tine. The left side is about a 6-8 inch spike.
My son really wants this elk. We were 400 yards and closing when the wind changed and they busted us after climbing close to a mile up this canyon.
So what do you think? Is the flavor of this meat going to be bad and worth it for a wierd rack. It's definately worth the memory for us.
